Fade Into You - Catriona Child
It’s 1994. Kurt Cobain’s death is still fresh in the air, and teenager Alex has been packed off to spend the summer helping at her aunt’s Bed and Breakfast in rural Argyll. Life in the village moves at a gentler pace than back home in Edinburgh, and Alex expects nothing more adventurous than changing sheets and serving cooked breakfasts. But everything shifts when she crosses paths with the twins who live next door.
Following Alex over the next fifteen years, Fade Into You is a nostalgic tribute to coming of age in Scotland through the 90s and early 2000s. With T in the Park, the Iraq war, and stacks of Britpop and Grunge mixtapes forming the backdrop and the taste of tablet never far away, the story explores the fierce bonds of childhood friendship, how they evolve with time, and the ways they linger long after life has moved on.
